Demographic Structure of Our Neighbour Hood Economics Project

DEMOGRAPHY

Demography is the study of the characteristics of the human population, such as size, growth, density, distribution, and vital statistics.

Demographic structure

It represents a fundamental approach to the understanding of human society. Its primary tasks are to ascertain the number of people in a given area, to determine what change that number represents from a previous Census, to explain the change, and to estimate the future trends of population changes. The demographer also traces the origins of population changes and studies their impact.

Demographers compile and analyze data that are useful for understanding various social systems and for establishing public policy in such areas as housing, education, and unemployment.

The primary aim of this project is to practically find out what constitutes the structure of the population and analyze it statistically.

For this, the students need to conduct a statistical study in their neighborhood, analyze the accumulated data, and draw inferences about their neighborhood. If their neighborhood or locality generally represents the city or the district as a whole, the analysis and interpretation could be assumed to apply to the entire city or the district.

Q.) What are the steps included in making a project on Demographic structure in a neighborhood?

Step 1:

Designing a questionnaire

To prepare a project report on the demographic structure at their neighborhood (say their colony), the students need to collect certain primary data by designing a questionnaire. A sample questionnaire with more questions after consulting their teacher. This sample questionnaire has been filled up with hypothetical information.

Step 2:

The exercise involves the collection of primary data. Due to enormity at the task, it is recommended that 3-4 students were simultaneous across different parts of the colony to timely complete the survey. The students must ensure that they cover every house for collecting the requisite information.

Step 3:

The raw data now needs to be classified, after which the data may assume the following form. ‘Age structure ion years’ ‘Sex Distribution.’

Step 4:

Presentation of data.

Step 5:

Analysis of Data.

Step 6:

Interpretation of data
