The power factor is the ratio of real power to apparent power, often denoted as KW/KVA. While KW represents the active or ‘real’ power, KVA comprises both reactive and active power.   • LCD Screen: This displays the time lag between voltage and current, helping to monitor the system in real time.

How it Works

  • Monitoring: The time lag between zero voltage and zero current pulses is continuously monitored.
  • Processing: The 8051 Microcontroller receives these inputs and calculates the required adjustment to optimize the power factor.
  • Actuation: The microcontroller actuates the required number of relays, which then introduce shunt capacitors into the load circuit until the power factor approaches unity.
