WHO IS A CONSUMER?
A consumer buys goods for consumption or utilization and not for resale or commercial purposes. He/she is an individual who pays some amount of money for the product. You, I and we are all consumed!
When a consumer is cheated in any way, either by the shopkeeper or the producer by giving poor quality or adulterated food or goods or by charging more price for a commodity is a service. It is called consumer exploitation.
- High prices of goods
- Substandard quality
- Adulterated and impure products
- False claims
Consumer awareness is a need of the present day. Since we are inspired to buy different products through advertisements but many of them are not qualitative products. In this age of capitalism and globalization, the main objective of each producer is to maximize his profit. Therefore in fulfillment of their aim, they target the interest of consumers and start exploiting them by overcharging and under weighing selling adulterated goods, false advertisements, and claims. Thus to save himself from being cheated, a consumer must be aware. In this way, consumer awareness means creating awareness of a consumer toward his rights and duties.
ITS NEED AND IMPORTANCE
It has been observed often that a consumer does not get goods and services in the right manner. He is charged a very high price or adulterated low-quality goods are sold to him. Therefore it is necessary to make him aware of his rights and duties.
NEED OF MAKING CONSUMERS AWARE
- TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM SATISFACTION
A person gets satisfaction only by limited adjustment he must get the goods that are measured approximately and he should not be cheated.
- PROTECTION AGAINST EXPLOITATION
Producers and sellers through their advertisements mislead the consumers. Consumer awareness shields them from the exploitation by these producers and seller
- CONTROL OVER CONSUMPTION OF HARMFUL PRODUCTS
Consumer education and awareness motivate people not to purchase goods like tobacco, liquor which cause harm to some consumers
- MOTIVATION FOR SAVING
The awareness contents people from wastage of money and extravagancy and inspires them to take the right decision
- CONSTRUCTION OF A HEALTHY SOCIETY
Every member of society is a consumer. So if the consumer is aware and rationale then complete society becomes healthy and alert toward the rights
- KNOWLEDGE REGARDING SOLUTION OF PROBLEM
Through consumer awareness, consumers are made known about the processing of lanes so that they can save their problems.
CONSUMER RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITY
Consumer rights is an insight into what rights the consumer holds when it comes to the seller who provides the goods what if the goods provided to the consumer by the business are not up to the standard? Then in that case-what should a consumer do? to be precise, what rights consumers have is in the court of law to fight against the malpractices of the business firms or sellers.
The definition of consumer rights is the right to have information about the quality, potency, quantity, price, and standard goods and services as it may be the care but the consumer is to protect against any unfair practices of the trade. Consumers need to know these rights. Consumers have the right to buy goods and commodities from the market generally a consumer has got following rights for buying products.
- RIGHT TO SAFETY
This is essential for the producers that they should obey the rules related to the safety of consumers the reason is if the producers are not obeyed safety rules then the consumer may have to bear a big risk.
- RIGHT TO CHOOSE
A consumer has the right to select any goods or services when he buys them. Legal action can be taken if the seller pressurizes you to buy that thing that you do not want to buy.
- RIGHT TO BE INFORMED
It is necessary to produce important information because the consumer is given the right to obtain information about things and services which they buy.
RIGHTS OF A CONSUMER
- The RIGHT to satisfaction of basic needs: to have access to basic essential goods and services adequate food clothing shelter health care education and sanitization
- The RIGHT to be informed: to be given the facts needed to make an informed choice and to be protected against dishonest or misleading advertising and labeling
- The RIGHT to get truthful and honest information about the goods and services which are purchased.
- RIGHT TO INFORMATION
This law provides the right to get information about consumers’ education.
- RIGHT TO REDRESSAL
The consumer has right to redressal against the expectation
- Explore all the options you may have at your disposal.
- Put all relevant documentation with the company in order.
- Connect with other victims of the scam along with you.
- From a group and file a case against that particular company.
- File a case with the concerned regular if the form down slitters.

CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT
IN 1986 the consumer protection act was passed by the government of India. It is famous as COPRA the main objective of this act is to decide the complaints of the consumers immediately and to make legal processings easy a three-tier judiciary system has been established under COPRA at the district state and national levels to resolve disputes of consumers.
WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY 15TH OF MARCH
It is a day market to raise global awareness about consumer rights and needs the consumer movement first market that day in 1983 and now uses the day every year to mobilize action on important issues & campaigns.

The government has been implementing this program and an intensive multimedia campaign to create consumer awareness in Courtney. It aimed at helping the emergency of consumers irrespective of age socio-eco class or gender.
NATIONAL CONSUMER HELPLINE
A national consumer helpline has been set up by the ministry of consumers affairs. Government of India. Complaints can be registered online through the official websites. Complaints can also be registered through a national toll-free number or SMS can be sent by mentioning the name and city which help the consumers from exploitation and also make them aware.
